international
project seminar
project montesquieu
network of panoramic
observatories of pescara province
Pescara, October 2003
How to find out and exploit the
best peculiarities of the italian landscape? In which
way to enter the local economic trend? The concept of
the network in small towns, the phenomenon of rural
tourism, the launch of typical crafts: the architectural
project must carry out punctual inventions aiming at a
strategic development of local situation and at the
exploitation of the cultural landscape. The
seminar, promoted by Pescara's Province, deals with
themes related to the realization of "Project
Montesquieu" which point out thirteen "significant
places" of sightseeing. An
architectonic plan in order to pick up and clarify the
environmental relationships. I

C o m p e t i t i o n For nearly forty years the Duomo of Pozzuoli has to be restored. In 1964 a fire collapsed the building and its destruction brought to light the remains of an underlying Temple dedicated to the Roman Emperor Augustus, a rare example of classical Augustan architecture. The monument represents the central element of the Rione Terra , once the ancient acropolis of Pozzuoli built on a massive tufa promontory dominating the Gulf of Naples. The Region of Campania for the past ten years has worked towards the reconstruction of the neglected district, now it has launched an international competition aimed at finding solutions that would return the Duomo to an active place of worship and still preserve the complex archaeological heritage of the site. The competition is divided in two phases. In the first phase, the entries will be narrowed down to twelve candidates selected on the basis of their curriculum vitae and a brief declaration of intent to be submitted by October 17th 2003.
